Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is about a girl named Alice that falls down a rabbit hole while chasing a rabbit with a clock. She then ends up in a world like no other with small doors, cake that makes you grow in an instant, a caterpillar that gives her advice, animals that talk and don't make any sense, and a queen of hearts that gets her way no matter what.I am kind of stuck between two characters for my inspiration. One of them being the Queen of hearts and the other being the caterpillar. (which one do y'all think has more potential?)

That is a tough question! The Queen is a bit more harsh and starling I think, whereas the caterpillar is more mysterious. I would love to see what you could come up with for the caterpillar. So many possibilities! The Queen of Hearts first calls to mind, obviously, hearts and I know if it were me I'd get stuck on that.
ReplyDeleteDude, do the caterpillar! I feel like the Queen of Hearts thing has been done so much, you might find yourself making similar work to what's already out there. But then to play Devil's advocate, I'm sure the Queen doesn't have her own typeface.
ReplyDeleteI lean towards the 'pillar because I can see you doing some really awesome psychedelic-esque things. Or, I don't know if it'd be possible with FontStruct, but some traditional style, 70's hand lettering-ness.
Yeah for the Queen I was leaning towards it being inspired off the playing cards. All the letter forms would have some characteristic to a certain suit or to a crown.
ReplyDeleteAnd for the Caterpillar I was thinking of maybe combining a sort of indian typeface (bc of the hookah) with a whimsical twist to tie back to the wonderland.
Yes! The Indian-vibe is a must! That sounds awesome.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, what an endeavor! personally, I would go with the caterpillar, I think the idea of the queen has been explored previously, and she is character people always talk about. I would be very interested in seeing you do the Caterpillar. He is such a fascinating anomaly in the book. His dire warnings and irony would make for a very intense typeface. I like the Indian idea. Maybe use a really old original version of the writing as a base. The character seems old.
ReplyDeleteI believe the smoking caterpillar would be the most fun to design, you could look at reference pictures of smoke as inspiration while designing.
ReplyDeleteI think your headed in the right direction with the indian-vibe and the caterpillar!
ReplyDeleteThis is a really unique story with different crazy characters, really cool. If I had to pick one I would probably be the queen, she seems pretty crazy haha.
ReplyDeleteCATERPILLAR! He's so chill and like "heyyy whateverrr duude." Idk. I don't think the queen deserves a typeface and like Melissa mentioned I feel like that's usually one of the main characters people would go to. Smooth whimsical lines seem appropriate I think. Have fun!!
ReplyDeleteI think the queen of hearts solution is to obvious which is why i think you should do the caterpillar
